Why This Matters
I’m Tunkanmi Opeyemi. I was inspired by my father’s story about how access to education helped him escape the vicious cycle of poverty, which was only possible through the influence of multiple “unknown givers” in his life. I helped found Unknown Giver to help continue the arc of my father’s story in which "unknown givers" are able to help students have access to education and the ability to leverage the platform to reach their full potential.

My Father's Story
My story would not be possible without the influence of a number of "unknown givers." I was born in the rural village of Isanlu and my path to education was not easy. From the young age of seven, I had to work in order to afford classroom essentials, ranging from pencils and chalkboards to shoes and school uniforms. This involved getting up before school to help tend to my family's crops. After school, I would then make items for my family to sell in the local market for additional income. It is only through the generosity of extended family, neighbors, and a number of “unknown givers” along the way that I managed to graduate college and subsequently obtain advanced degrees. I’m proud to see my son lead the effort through Unknown Giver to make sure this is not the reality for children going forward.
